Narnia

Wow...what else can I say?

Probably a bit more.

Narnia was a very wonderful remake...I remember when I was a young girl...wait, boy... when we used to watch the OLD version of 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe'. It was spooky and awesome, but not too bad. I feel as if the new version is aimed at our kind of age group or older...there are some very dark and slightly violent parts in this movie but not enough to push it for a stricter rating. I am sure all ages, young and old, would have really enjoyed this movie. The special effets were beautiful, and just enough to help the story. I was glad that for ONCE in a bigtime hollywood film that the movie wasnt carried by the special effects.

Now I would love to read the book to be able to have a greater understanding as to what I may expect if they release more films under the Narnia Chronicles.

Rating: 8/10

Caligari

Now this was an awesome movie. It had a twist at the end and everything, but I am not going to ruin it for people who havent seen it yet. I love horror/thrillers and to see where they originated from was awesome. I have seen Nosferatu before and enjoy that emensley.

This film showed me where Tim Burton got some ideas for his sets in "Corpse Bride". The zany backdrops and exagerated make up was nearly too much... I still loved it though. It started slow and was one of those movies where it started as a "I remember when..." then the movie plays off of that persons memory. Usually i'd be all like "augh...not THIS again...", but seeing as it was probably the first of it's kind I sat back and enjoyed it.

Rating: 8/10

The Birth of a Nation

I think everyone would agree this is one long film. Three hours of non-stop black and white footage nearly drov me crazy, but I tried to concentrate and take it all in for this review anyway.

Let me start by saying that movies shouldnt have one-million plots... Ok, so first we started with brothers going to war (I think) then one died, one came back, lincon was sho, the black people were set free, the KKK came and rescued the day. Now please dont think for ONE minute I am racist, I am just writing what this KKK propaganda film was about.

I hate to say it but thats basically all I got out of the film. As you may have guessed, actors from 1915 werent that wonderful and probably hadn't recieved any sort of training. Maybe if the actors didn't over-react with their emotions so much, I might have understood at least 20 minutes of this film.

My rating? 3/10

Date Movie

I participated in watching this film, the night of last. Um, seriously... It was made by the same creators of such films as the scary moivie's, from one through to seven hundred or whatever they are up to now. There were SOME funny bits, but I would like to stress only SOME. Some being the most important word in that sentance. I think I can count how many funny bits there were on one hand...that hand being a ninja turtle hand...three fingers. Therefore, threee funny bits.

Date Movie generally fuels its "comedic genious" from the overused rip-off television-type sketches. The creators play off all of those lame "chick-flicks" (as they are known) to try and pull together some kind of coherent storyline, while also attempting comedy. I feel as if they failed.

If I would have to rate this movie 3 out of 10.

The Great Train Robbery

1903...I was -117 years of age. This is a very old film, and decent I suppose as it was a pioneer in the filming industry. The story goes that four men rob a train, escape then get killed. I hope I didnt ruin anything for you, but too bad. Each shot in the movie was fairly stationary except for one pan. The movie didnt get me sucked in as such, as I suppose it wasnt meant to. It was more like watching a theatre play, but with some outdoor shots. The movie in general wasnt too boring, but did quite well seeing as the film makers hadnt done much of this before.

I rate it 7/10.
